Vision Data ASP server keeps Windsor Press operating after major fire seriously damages physical facility.

May 1, 2009 - Hamburg, PA – Five months ago, The Windsor Press, a long-time user of the Vision Total Advertising system, replaced their outdated server by moving to the increasingly attractive time-share option of running their entire operation utilizing Vision Data's Application Service Provider (ASP) services, which are located 250 miles away from Hamburg in Vision Data's Rensselaer, NY corporate offices. The Windsor Press accesses all of it's data for their business functions, including all of their classified ads, via the Internet.

Matt Figard of The Windsor Press, commented in early January: “The Vision Data ASP application is ideal for smaller papers or those who want to save the cost and distraction of an on-site IT function. It allows us to focus more directly on our primary job of producing viable, interesting print and on-line products.”

At that time, though, neither Matt nor anyone else foresaw the full extent of the positive impact of this move. When a major fire swept through The Windsor Press building on March 24th, the building, the computers and fixtures, the files and just about everything else was destroyed. Thanks to a very dedicated and loyal staff, as well as a tremendous amount of community support, and the fact that all of their business records, ad schedules, classified ads, and other vital information were physically stored at Vision Data, The Windsor Press was actually able to publish their next weekly issues just seven days after the fire, by operating out of a temporary location in a former elementary school which was provided by the Hamburg Area School District.

Macheads Computer Services, a local computer company, quickly set up new computers and a new networked Internet connection, allowing Windsor Press employees to log back into to their Vision Total Advertising and business systems, safely stored at Vision Data, without any loss of data or need to re-program any of the computers.

Absolutely no ads or accounting information was lost, in spite of the local devastation, as both the East Penn Valley Merchandiser and the Northern Berks Merchandiser continued publication without noticeable affect to either readers or advertisers. “Vision Data is proud to be a part of this recovery program, in light of this major disaster for The Windsor Press, one of our valued customers,” commented Thomas A. Dempsey, president of Vision Data. “It certainly does point out the peripheral ‘insurance value’ of using an ASP or SAAS system, like Vision Data’s.”
