Sun Newspapers, Eden Prairie, MN invests in fully-redundant 105-user Vision Data systems for advertising and production

May 13, 2005 - EDEN PRAIRIE, MN – American Community Newspapers, LLC. today announced the purchase of complete new front-end software systems from Vision Data Equipment Corp., Rensselaer, NY for their Minnesota publishing group, including the daily Stillwater Gazette and the 41-weekly publications serving over 430,000 households in the Sun Newspaper Group, headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, with sixteen regional offices throughout the Twin Cities. Sun will enjoy the efficiencies of a single database, complete cross-selling functionality, centralized billing and credit controls. Jeff Coolman Group Publisher and Vice President of the Minnesota group commented that Vision Data provided a total package solution as well as the ability to grow with the company as new newspapers are acquired and launched. Pam Miller has been named as the project leader for American Community Newspapers.

The 75-user Vision Total Advertising sales and management system, running on a Sun Solaris server, will handle all display and classified ad sales and billing, accounts receivable management, and sales management functions, including an expanded CRM module for sales contact management. The system will also contain a live interface to American Community Newspapers’ existing general ledger system. The system includes Vision Classified Pagination and the Vision Retail Ad Placement System. It will also include on-line real-time credit card verification for all sites as well as the Vision HomeLink ad placement system which allows customers to place and pay for ads directly from their home computers.

American Community Newspapers will also be the second publishing group to go live with Vision Ad-Trak, Vision Data’s complete ad tracking system that monitors the production of all “live” and “spec” ads, while archiving and storing all advertising production elements for the various newspapers. The 30-user system also handles all ad proofing, including e-mailed proofs, and allows remote ad placement by outside accounts, as well as remote ad-building via the web. The system will also have the ability to store and archive all forms of digital material, not necessarily related to ads.

Vision Data will also convert all of the existing data, including account masters, display and classified advertising account ad history, contracts, and balances from the existing systems into the Vision Total Advertising System.

American Community Newspapers, LLC publishes 68 weekly and two daily newspapers and three niche publications with a total weekly circulation of approximately 900,000 households, in three primary geographic areas: suburban Minneapolis- St Paul, Kansas City and areas surrounding Dallas.

The installation, which includes 44 days of on-site training will begin in June 2005 and is scheduled to be completed in a 6 -8 month period.
